The survey responses have largely been fueled by nostalgia. Players grew up with a certain combat calculations and want to see it continued. There are different reasons for voting for the 138 that aren't directly nostalgia related. One is familiarity, which I find strange considering the 200 calculation was in the game for well over a year now. The next is pures, making little sense. Pures were not destroyed because of RuneScape gold the combat climbing system but because they could not wear the hitpoint fostering armour their elevated defence competitions had. The final is the fact that it is going to give maxed combat more prestige. Even though this is true, a battle level isn't meant to be an indicator of just how hard somebody has worked in their accounts. It is a sign of account power. The 138 system wouldn't only fail to perform this well in the new battle system, it failed to do it in the past combat system. That is likely why"It scales players well" is not feasible on the RSOF subject where gamers discuss what they like about the 138 calculation.
Not only is that the 200 formula scale players it is pretty straightforward to compute. If you obtain a second defence level for instance, you're going to understand what battle level you will be. Also, by studying another's battle level, you need to be able to figure out the ballpark of this player's stats. Once you take all the above into account, I am not sure how you could argue that the 138 battle calculation does a much better job at what's is supposed to do than the 200 calculation, particularly in the current EOC system.
A Potential Saving Grace. In the conclusion of this editorial, it is very important to notice something significant. When/if that the 138 calculation wins, Jagex will produce a different poll, giving players the option to change the 138 calculation. This maybe could prevent the problem discussed above. The machine however would need to be altered radically. Hitpoints would need to have hardly any influence on the calculation and Attack and Power would need to be scaled to Ranged and Magic. Can this survey to alter the combat system succeed in solving the issue? We don't know, but probably not. As stated before, nostalgia plays a huge role in people's choices. They want the old calculation back, not an entirely new one. Even if the players voted yes to buy OSRS gold a change, we would not have that much sway in what gets changed and what does not. This requires some power out of the gamers' hands. It's the reason we are here in the first location.
